Weeks 34 &35

Fruit/Veg/Edibles: Savoy Cabbage and a Bunch of Carrots. Can we all just pretend I’ve made it to Perfectly Ripe Watermelon already and call it a day?

Bi-Weekly weight gain: 0.2 lbs – are you thinking…that’s it? Cuz I’m totally thinking that’s impossible.

Total weight gain:  20.8 lbs. I feel like the baby weighs all of that and then some.

I can be found eating:  Take-out. And across the street. Grocery shopping is overrated. Especially when you go and fill a cart and forget that you strategically removed your payment methods from your wallet for easy access after getting your nails done. And they are at home now and you leave with nothing but swollen feet and no energy to return.

Aversions:  Pregnancy brain and being called out on it by cashiers who think they’re hilarious. But mostly I am so over dropping EVERYTHING I TOUCH. The ratio of things held on to to things that fall to the ground is drastically out of proportion. My fingers are very swollen and my joints so achy that I’m pawing at things like a freaking animal that paws at things.

Also working, especially in light of the aversions above.

Movement/bumps/thumps/lumps/shmumps: I get it little one. There’s not much room in there for you. I’m not really sorry because I like being a small human. So by all means continue your little stretching exercises and make your own space. My tummy has been as cooperative as you, thus far. My only request is that you stretch out rather than up. The under the rib action is prettty uncomfortable.

Maternity style:  This.

Well I haven’t worn it yet, but this is probably my last maternity purchase. I swore I was done but that’s a gap sweater for 50% off the sale price; totaling $5ish. And it’s just dumb to say no to a quality sweater that costs less than your average morning Starbucks. Perfect for cool summer nights, campfires, and a post-partum new mommy fall. Win win win.

Check in next week for an update related to maternity swimwear. I’m so anxious to share. Lies.

How do I feel?: Hanging in there. Quite literally. If I could just have a small little gnome running around under me holding my belly up it would be wonderful. Maybe a little weird, but wonderful. Support bands are a must now and hardly do the trick. A gnome would do. Maybe he’d be willing to pick up everything I drop too. Now accepting gnome applications.

Status of the bump: Low-lying. I can’t imagine this baby is staying in the oven for the full 40. *insert warnings about going past due dates and not to anticipate an early delivery here* I’ll cross all those late and miserable bridges when/if I get to them. The following bumppics don’t do a bit of justice to the lowness of this bumper, but rest assured that birth looks far more imminent in real life.

& your bi-weekly optical illusion.

The Happies:

My downpours! – Extra! Extra! Read all about them!

Surrey Road for the Win! – a brief (not really) backstory:  Ryan (and pretty much his whole family)’s high school was destroyed by the tornado that hit Springfield in 2011. Our neighborhood, also home to Cathedral, has recovered and is now a sunnier version of its former self with fewer trees, but the fate of the school remained in limbo. The decision was reached to consolidate Cathedral and another area Catholic high school to form a new school (cool.. sure!), but the site of the school had yet to be confirmed until this week. Ultimately, a quality Catholic education will remain in our neighborhood and as we welcome Baby Hess into the world it is reassuring and super exciting that our little one can some day continue a very special legacy on Surrey Road in Springfield. So close to home.
