Lydia – One month

Holy moly the time does fly…  And what’s my blog without some semblence of a ‘regular’ update?  Unupdated generally. I need me some milestones to keep me on task.

Lydia is a one month old and people are even more interested in striking up conversation than they were when she was tucked inside (I didn’t think it was possible). But I suddenly went from proudly announcing her age in week increments to stuttering, slurring and maybe sometimes accidentally spitting a little on the friendly strangers asking how old she is…  37 days? 5 weeks 2 days? 1 month and 6 days? A month and almost a week? I go with whatever comes out first and hope that it’s one of those things.  Usually… it’s not and the curious friendly stranger ends up with some awkward combination of “ummm… a month and… a few-ish weeks… and ughhh… yeah, she’s really really new” *smiles, nods, thank yous*  New. Mom. Fail.

These just in — One month appointment stats. Oh yeah, you’re about to get some percentiles thrown at ya! I’m sensing your feigned excitement, but going to charge ahead with them anyway.  Enjoy!

Weight: 11.4 lbs  Our little lady gained 3.1 pounds since her last appointment, which is a whole lot for all of you who don’t really care that much about the nuances of newborn weight gain.  The pediatrician rechecked her weight because she didn’t believe it and proceeded to ask if I have “heavy cream in there.” Are you confused… let me clarify. She was referring to my boobs, which are now the #1 topic of conversation in my life (I’m probably 60% to blame for this) Speaking of percentiles (!!!), Lydia jumped from the 25th to the 95th percentile in weight. Looks like someone’s headed riiiiight on her way to this….

The Hess Station Chubby Baby Jill at 3 months

Mom circa 1988

Height: 22 1/4 inches She’s kinda long.  It’s weird and I don’t really get it.

Health: Strong to very strong – I’d say.  She’s healthy as a horse.

That’s about all I got for you besides a LOT of awful pictures.  We had a little photoshoot (it wasn’t little) on her one-month-since-your-birth day.  It was a fun…lengthy way to celebrate. Turns out that taking monthly photos will be more of a challenge than an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon, but hopefully they are worth it in the long run.  Here are the highlights.  Feel free to reach out if you would like to see the hundreds of photos on my computer of her crying, grimacing, squirming, with her arm in front of her face, featuring Kenzie’s butt, and taken with horrible lighting.

  1. I laughed so hard when I saw your baby picture. You are doing a great job momma, she is supposed to gain weight. Loved all the pictures and your notes. I can’t wait to hold her again. Hopefully soon. Miss you guys lots. Kisses to the baby for me.
