Lydia’s Fourth Month

I’m getting lazy, people. The posts for months 1 & 2 were timely, prompt — things I am not. Month 3 was a few days late, way more my style and here we are at month 4 and I’m posting over a week past her monthly birthday. Now that, my friends, is unacceptable because I know you’re waiting with your tongues hanging out for your Lydia percentiles. Fear not, they’ve arrived.

This month in the life of Lydie was adorable. Her first turkey day was a success. She gave thanks for milk. We all gave thanks for her. And she wore pants with a bedazzled turkey on the butt. Very successful holiday.

Lydia sort of rolled over for the first time, but mommy was in the bathroom so basically it didn’t happen…. And hasn’t happened since so until she is consistently performing the skill, it clearly doesn’t count — unless mommy sees it and records it and jumps up and down like a looney tune.

Lydia stopped sleeping through the night. This began in month 3, but now we are talking 1am, 4am, and 6am wake ups.  It could be worse though. Her eyes flutter as she kicks, coos and blows bubbles accompanied by this cute little ‘I’m farting, let’s play’ grin. It’s hard to get upset with that unless it’s 1am 4am or 6am. I’m now a master of laughing and crying at the same time. Parenthood.

We finally gave Lydia a little nighttime routine complete with your quintessential story time and kissing her stuffed animals good night and snot-sucking….

Yeah, the poor little lady has had this congestion that just won’t quit for like 3 weeks. Two pediatrician visits later and we are still mainly home-remedying her symptoms — saline drops, humidifier, hanging out in the cold night air, hanging out in the steamed up bathroom and you guessed it snot-sucking. That nose frida is a game-changer. We’ve also got a nebulizer and albuterol on hand to use as she needs it when her cough gets particularly wheezy and her chest gets particularly congested.  Which is like every 3rd day if I had to estimate. As awful as it is to see her uncomfortable and sickly and just full of yuck, she makes one heck of a cute little sick baby. See below.

Anyone else noticing the parallels between her declining sleep patterns and onset of illness. Mmmm me too. ?

She’s getting much better at tummy time…Like actually picking her head up instead of thrashing and screaming and slobbering all over the playmat while mommy wonders how truly necessary this dreaded activity is.  Her natural instincts lead her to spread her arms and face plant instead of supporting herself. But on good days, when mommy is attentive and giving her every bit of tactile, visual and auditory stimuli possible, She will stay up for like 30 seconds. Yes that’s a win.

4 month stats:

Weight: 16lbs 8oz (90th percentile)

Length: 26 inches (92nd percentile)

Her next month-birth-day-aversary is New Year’s Eve. Let’s all just expect tardiness. Winks.

  1. She is sooo cute! I’m also a “new mom”, my baby is now 8 months and I can totally relate to what you’re describing… don’t worry! you will sleep again!
