The Importance of the Mani/Pedi

…high.

I got my nails done yesterday at your run of the mill, strip mall, kind-of-English-speaking-but-not-really nail salon by an adorable and very talented Tammy. Yes, her name was obviously Tammy. I didn’t ask if she was a Tammi or Tammy. But she struck me as a Y kind of Tammy….I digress.

This seems pretty standard and for many women who have either more money or a stronger desire to look put together than I, getting your nails done is as regular an occurance as my bi-weekly pregnancy updates. I, on the other hand and foot, usually only splurge about 2-3 times/year for these delights; once at the beginning of the summer because sandals are suddenly necessary, before big vacations, and for weddings or wedding-related events. Otherwise, I tackle the project myself with mediocre but generally acceptable results.

Well, we all know how the last attempt went (unless you don’t and want to read about the struggle here). So I treated myself yesterday in anticipation of the many bridal/baby showers in the upcoming weeks and omg was it worth the time, money and pride spent.

The rundown:

  • I tripped on my way in… *insert gasps and every head-turned here* I was fine.
  • Had to leave to go to the atm because there were (appreciated) signs everywhere indicating tips were cash only. Ugh
  • Had a really difficult time understanding our doll Tammy and ended up on Pinterest for the entirety of the pedicure. Rude.
  • Could’ve shaved my legs more thoroughly but definitely didn’t. It’s easier said than done these days. Sorry Tam.
  • Forgot what a sight for sore eyes my ankles are. Tammy was very concerned about the swelling – fear not my friend. Massage on.

Once we got through all of that, though, I enjoyed what seemed like a very extended and especially relaxing manicure and pedicure. Maybe I was in dire need of nail painting (yes) or really in the mood for a foot rub (yes) or feeling like I could use a little pretty pick me up (yes), but this was probably the most appreciated little gift to myself and best mani/pedi ever. I left with beautiful gel nails and the knowledge that I avoided the frustration and ridiculousness of trying to take on the task myself. It was soooo worth it that I might even be back before baby.  Prego pampering is apparently key because Ryan keeps noting (at least when I’m around) how relatively easy-going and un-moody I’ve been. I attribute my generally happy disposition and positive-attitude pregnancy to this amazing melon-baby and the fact that I’ve been shopping to my hearts content and keeping myself feeling pretty. So on a scale from one to important… mani/pedis are now ranked high to very high.

Surpassed only by the importance of hydration and naps.

Thanks Tammy. I promise I’ll be more diligent about shaving my legs next time. But I probably won’t.
